Where It All Began

Kailee and I didn’t grow up with the picture-perfect childhood you see in movies.

We grew up in survival mode.

When she was little, my mom gave her to our uncle. He and my grandparents raised her for a while. Then she moved more than 100 miles away. And eventually… she came back.

Back to us.
Back to home.
Back to chaos.

We grew up in a house that—if I’m being honest— had CPS knocking on the door more then once. We could’ve been taken. We could’ve been in foster care.

But we weren’t.

Today our relationship with our mom is healthier than it once was. And because of that, there are parts of our story we hold gently.

But the truth is:

Our childhood was hard.

Messy.
Confusing.
Painful.

And it shaped us.

Especially Kailee.

Becoming a Mom While Learning to Be Strong

Kailee became a mom young.

She learned fast how to love fiercely while guarding her peace.
She learned how to show up even when life was unfair.

Later, she married, had another son, worked full time, went to school full time, and earned her cosmetology degree.

Exhausted.
Overwhelmed.
Still showing up.

Rising Again and Again

After divorce, Kailee moved back home and started over.

No shortcuts.
No handouts.
No safety net.

She rebuilt with two more babies on her hip and dreams in her heart.

Then life tested her again with betrayal and disappointment.

And still, she stood.
